Engineers Complete Structural BIM Design Training with ProtaStructure 2027 in Dar es Salaam
Structural, Civil engineers and technical professionals from across Tanzania came together in Dar es Salaam last week for the second round of ProtaStructure training, a five-day intensive program focused on Structural BIM Design using ProtaStructure 2027, accredited by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB). Delivered in both physical and virtual formats to accommodate participants joining from different parts of the country, the program built on the momentum of the previous ProtaStructure training and deepened the region's growing base of BIM-skilled engineers.
Inside the Curriculum: Structural Skills That Go Beyond the Basics
The training took participants deep into ProtaStructure's core toolset, moving well beyond the basics of the interface. Engineers worked through structural modeling and 3D analysis, learning to build accurate building models and run code-compliant structural analysis directly within the software. A significant portion of the program focused on reinforced concrete (RC) frame design and detailing covering beam, column, and slab design, along with the reinforcement detailing that turns an analysis model into drawings a contractor can actually build from. Participants also explored optimization techniques for refining structural designs without over-engineering them and were introduced to workflows for integrating ProtaStructure's output with broader BIM processes helping bridge the gap between structural analysis and the multidisciplinary coordination modern construction projects demand. By the end of the program, participants weren't just clicking through software, they were producing design outputs that mirrored what's expected on live projects. Each participant left with a certificate as a formal recognition of the skills built over the week.
Adapting on the Ground
Running a hybrid, week-long technical training rarely goes exactly to plan, and this cohort tested the team's ability to adapt in real time.
